These healthy Chocolate Banana Muffins (Recipe ⬇️) are so yummy that I had a hard time getting people to quit eating them before I snapped a picture. 🍌 🍫

These muffins are a chocolate version of my healthy whole-grain banana muffins. I started with an NYT @nytcooking Whole-Grain Banana Yogurt Muffins recipe and have tweaked it over time to be even better.

I added 1/4 cup each of cocoa and natural almond butter (from @crazyrichardspb) along with a cup of dark chocolate chips from @ghirardelli to my version banana muffin recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa or cocao powder
  • 1 tsp each baking powder & baking soda & cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 3/4 mashed bananas
  • 1/4 cup natural runny almond butter
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 neutral oil like safflower oil or organic Canola oil
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 375°F. Prepare muffin tins with oil or nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, add the first 5 dry ingredients and combine well. In a medium bowl, combine wet ingredients.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold until no flour remains visible but be careful to not over stir.
  4. Pour the batter evenly into the muffin cups. Bake for about 15 - 20 minutes (or less than 10 minutes for mini muffins). Be careful not to over bake! Cool and enjoy! 😋
